In this edition, we get to know System96. His music has taken us by storm in the last few years. Ranking up 42k listeners in the past month he is definitely one to watch. His music has notes of Chillsynth, Outrun, and Vaporwave. Which forms his base for his unique sound. System96 name Blake toured lots before and during covïd keeping him firmly on the map. He was joined by a whole host of epic artists. Watch Out For Snakes, PSYK, Vampire Step Dad, Fristy Monkey, and North Innsbruck.

Question one–
Synthwave83- Hey, so first up… let’s talk about the inspiration behind your music, where do you get the chilled outrun vibes from?
System96– I get a lot of my inspiration from some early childhood memories I have. Everything seemed to have a tinge of realness and some sort of analog feel to it. I try my best to recreate those feelings and turn them into sound.
Question Two-
Synthwave83– You’re pretty new to the synth scene, beginning in 2019. Taking us by storm, and your Spotify monthly listeners at 44,505 a month, is incredible. So tell us what’s your background in music?
System96– My background in music goes back to my late teens. I was heavily influenced by the dubstep wave of 2010-2014. After getting tired of fiddling around with Fl studio for weeks on end with no result I attended a music school for a few years, but didn’t finish. It sucked all the life and fun out of production and I felt like it was distracting me from making the music that I wanted. I dove into Youtube and learned the fundamentals of mixing. After getting a grasp on the production techniques, I began working on a synth project in 2016 which later evolved into the System96 project.
Question Three-
Synthwave83– What’s the history or meaning behind your artist name System96?
System96– I came up with the name with the help of a meme. No lie. It was a generic synhwave name generator. I liked the name so it just stuck.

Synthwave83– What Instruments do you play?
System96– I play piano, bass and a little guitar.
Question Five-
Synthwave83– Your album Lost in Translation is awesome I couldn’t pick just one I like. What was it like making that album for you?
System96– I usually make an album by getting 2 tracks that sound very similar. I try to make “sister tracks” to those. It’s almost always a year-long process of trial and error. Once I have 7 tracks that tell a story, I create a visual representation of the music and try to arrange the album in a way that takes the listener through different chapters of a story.

Synthwave83– What’s coming up for you in the future? Do you plan to tour? New music? Maybe even another album?
System96– I currently have an album in the works. Not entirely sure when It’ll be ready for release but is hoping to by the end of the year if possible. Until then, I’m gearing up for 2023 by creating visuals, lighting sequencing, and assembling the new tracks for live shows.
